Half of the transactions made by Ukrainians are processed through PRRO

Currently, 69% of all cash registers, which is nearly 605 thousand, are POS terminals. Their number has increased by 1.6 times over the year. Compared to the period before the full-scale invasion in 2021, the number of “cash registers in smartphones” has increased by 8.5 times. It’s worth noting that online POS terminals appeared only in 2020.

At the same time, traditional cash registers have been losing popularity since March 2022. Over 2 years, their number has decreased by 15% — from 323.1 thousand to 273.1 thousand.

Currently, POS terminals outnumber traditional cash registers by 2.2 times. By comparison, back in early April 2021, the situation was quite different — the number of traditional cash registers exceeded online POS terminals by 4.2 times. So, at that time, every hundredth receipt was from a POS terminal, while in 2024, it’s every second receipt.

The average amount per receipt from POS terminals has also increased by 11 times over 3 years. If in 2021 it was 9 billion UAH, now it’s 103 billion UAH.

In 2024, the total monthly amount for receipts from POS terminals averages 238.4 billion UAH, with nearly half of it — 43% — coming from online POS terminals. For comparison, in 2021, this amount averaged 142.8 billion UAH, with POS terminals accounting for only 6%.

«Business prefers POS terminals for their convenience, ease of installation, and lower cost compared to traditional cash registers. The Ministry of Finance’s plans to restrict POS terminals — by banning offline mode, reintroducing paper accounting books, and requiring the manual attachment of receipts — seem like shooting ourselves in the foot in today’s context. Instead of keeping Ukraine in the club of high digitalization, they are trying to drag us back into a bureaucratic past where doing business was expensive and complex»,
